Standing Orders

These are the written rules of the local council. They are used to confirm a council’s internal organisational, administrative and procurement procedures and procedural matters for meetings.

Explanatory Note

Standing orders set out the rules for the conduct of the Council’s meetings and its organisational, administrative and procurement arrangements and, for a parish council, are subject to many statutory requirements. Standing orders may also control the arrangements for committee and sub-committee meetings which are subject to fewer statutory requirements.

In these Standing Orders, ‘councillor’ includes a non-councillor serving on the Council or a committee, with or without voting rights.
